Kim Philby Remembered: A traitor to his class

In Defense of Communism | January 03, 2022

Kim Philby, born on January 1st, 1912, is one of the best known double agents of the Cold War era. A man of affluent bourgeois background who decided to cut ties with his class and devote himself to the struggle of the working class by serving the Soviet Union secret services. In his homeland, Britain, he has been labeled as a “traitor”. But, in fact, just for “betraying” the interests of British imperialism, Philby should be regarded as a hero for the working class people.

“I have followed exactly the same line the whole of my adult life. The fight against fascism and the fight against imperialism were fundamentally the same fight”, Kim Philby was quoted as saying.

Philby, alongside some other progressive young people of his generation, understood the deeply reactionary character of capitalism. That is why they began searching for radical ideas, studied Marxism and, some of them, came closer to the communist ideology.

CIA employees worked in Russian government in mid-1990s

A Journal of People report

Russian President Vladimir Putin shed some light on the methods that foreign states used to influence the Russian Federation in mid-1990s.
Putin underscored that he thwarted such actions in the early 2000s. “For instance: mid-1990s-early 2000s; in the early 2000s, I’ve cleaned all of them out, but in mid-1990s, we had Central Intelligence Agency employees as advisors and even official employees of the government of the Russian Federation, as we learned later,” Putin said at the Council for Civil Society and Human Rights meeting Thursday.
“Later, they were brought to responsibility in the US for, while being CIA employees and working in Russia, they violated the US law and took part in the privatization,” the President underscored.
According to Putin, “this is only one example” of attempted interference in Russia’s internal affairs. “In reality, they are much more numerous,” Putin said.
According to Putin, “certain countries had some degree of control via this channel.”

Anthology of cold war propaganda: a down payment toward truth

Blog 207 / khakispecs.com

This blog is nowhere near exhaustive. It is intended to serve no purpose other than a quick one-port call to obtain a more balanced view of the more egregious unlikelihoods promoted by western propaganda agencies in their anxiety to restrict the economic growth of Russia and China. It is envisaged that it will have to be continuously updated as the cold war progresses and the associated lies and mistruths proliferate.

The alliance of western nations clustered around the USA is engaged in a major propaganda campaign. The primary aim of this campaign is to justify the extraction of enormous sums from the pockets of their citizens to be spent on their ‘defence’ at the expense of their wellbeing. These eye-watering wastes go to line the pockets of the multiple interests vested in the military industrial complex.

EMPIRE

In the years following World War II, The U.S. and West Germany jointly worked to conceal a high-ranking Nazi official’s role in deporting tens of thousands of Jews, newly disclosed intelligence records obtained by German public broadcaster ARD reveal, per The New York Times.

Franz Josef Huber led a large section of the Gestapo — Adolf Hitler’s secret police — that stretched across Austria, and his forces worked closely with Adolf Eichmann on the coordination of the deportation of Jews to concentration and extermination camps. Eichmann, famously, was tried and executed in Israel in 1962 for his role in the Holocaust, but Huber dodged that fate, even though the U.S. forces arrested him in 1945. He was released in 1948 and continued to live out his days in Munich, seemingly avoiding responsibility altogether because he was seen as a potential Cold War asset.Read More »

U.S. angles for new ‘cold war’ with China; it must be stopped

Since Richard Nixon’s 1972 visit to Beijing, the trajectory of U.S.-China relations had been towards greater levels of cooperation and economic integration, even if these masked deep underlying contradictions and the ever-present possibility of confrontation. However, over the course of the last few years, we’ve witnessed a significant shift in U.S. foreign policy with respect to China.

In 2011, the Obama administration announced its “pivot to Asia,” in which it aimed to shift its focus away from bombing the Middle East and towards “advancing American interests” in the Pacific. Everyone understood that this meant making China containment the unambiguous central plank of U.S. foreign policy.

But even the pivot had its contradictions.Read More »

Cold War of Trump/Navarro v. China: More Dangerous than COVID-19

by Andre Vltchek

It is getting ugly, extremely ugly.

It is increasingly looking like a war – at least a new ‘cold’, ideological war.

But in the shadow of COVID-19, it goes almost unnoticed.

The blind horseman, who hates China intuitively, without knowing hardly anything about it, is leading the pack, pushing his president into a confrontation with the most populous country on Earth. His name is Peter Navarro.Read More »

Himalayan glaciers retreating fast: Cold War spy satellites helped find the fact

by

Countercurrents | July 05, 2019

Glacier melt in the Himalayas today is twice as fast as it was before 2000. With conditions remaining unchanged, the glaciers are likely to lose two-thirds of their total ice.

Images, once secret, from Cold War-period US spy satellites helped find out the fact.

Hexagon, a US spy program in the 1970s-’80s, launched 20 satellites to photograph secretly our world including the Himalayas. The US Geological Survey digitized the images after declassification in 2011 for scientists.Read More »

F.W. ENGDAHL: Why NATO Wants to Destroy Putin’s Russia—the Cold War that Never Ended

Why NATO Wants to Destroy Putin’s Russia: From Manifest Destiny Book

Dear Readers,

For this installment of my gratis newsletter I want to share a chapter excerpt from my latest book, Manifest Destiny: Democracy as Cognitive Dissonance. In the first chapters of the book I describe in detail rarely discussed background to how severely and ruthlessly both the Bush and Clinton Administrations during the 1990’s used their CIA-controlled asset, Boris Yeltsin, to open up the fabulously resource rich but money poor Russian Federation after 1989. By the end of that fateful decade, in 1999 internal opposition to the Yeltsin looting of the country was so great that the CIA-backed Russian oligarchs around Yeltsin—Boris Berezovsky, Vladimir Potanin, Mikhail Khodorkovsky and others—decided to bring in an unknown new face, one they were convinced would allow them to continue their plunder. He was then 47-year old former Deputy Major of St Petersburg named Vladimir Putin. Within months as Putin won the 2000 Presidential vote on a promise to restore Russia to a stable nation, the oligarchs and their friends in Washington realized they were dealing with a far different character from the pliable Yeltsin. There began NATO’s 18- year campaign to bring down Putin’s Russia. The following is an excerpt from my book, Manifest Destiny dealing with NATO efforts after 2002 to encircle Russia and break Putin, all to date to little success. It gives an essential missing element to the extraordinary demonization of Putin’s Russia over the recent time.Read More »
