After a wait of more than 40 days since the completion of the second electoral round, the candidate of the Peru Libre party, the teacher Pedro Castillo Terrones, was officially proclaimed, on Monday night, as the new president of Peru.

Earlier this July 20, the Cuban Head of State had also congratulated Castillo for the great popular support of the Peruvian people.

The National Elections Jury – Telesur reported – made the announcement through a statement with the results of the vote count, and sealed the defeat of the right-wing Keiko Fujimori, representative of the Popular Force party, who, contrary to the posture of non-recognition held later of the votes – including unjustified acts of contesting the minutes, illegal compromises to reverse the results and calls for protests by her factions, she was forced to publicly yield to Castillo’s victory.

Winner, with 50.12% of the votes counted, against 49.87% for Fujimori, according to data from the National Office of Electoral Processes, Castillo was insistent on asking his voters for patience, pending the proclamation, but He was firm in defending the will of the majorities.
