Calling for international aid and being democratically elected will do as little to protect Maduro’s government from U.S. aggression.

The Miami Herald (2/8/19) reported, “Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro continues to reject international aid—going so far as to blockade a road that might have been used for its delivery.“

ACTION ALERT: MSNBC’s ‘Resistance’ to Trump’s Venezuela Coup Ranges from Silence to Support

by Adam Johnson

fter much behind the scenes angling and plotting, the Trump administration is now waging an overt campaign to overthrow the government of Venezuela—coordinating directly with the Venezuelan military, lobbying other countries to support the opposition government-in-waiting, threatening a military invasion and engaging in aggressive PR stunts under the guise of “aid.”

How America’s Dictatorship Works

by Eric Zuesse

Trump could not have become America’s President if he had not won the “vote” of his nation’s second-largest political donor in 2016, casinos-owner Sheldon Adelson.

In publicly recorded donations, as of 25 December 2018, Adelson and his wife donated $82,522,800 to Republican candidates in 2016, and this amount doesn’t include any of the secret money. Of that sum, it’s virtually impossible to find out how much went specifically to Trump’s campaign for President, but, as of 9 May 2017, the Adelsons were publicly recorded as having donated $20.4 million to Trump’s campaign. Their impact on the Presidential contest was actually much bigger than that, however, because even the Adelsons’ non-Trump-campaign donations went to the Republican Party, and the rest went to Republican pro-Trump candidates, and the rest went to Republican PACS — and, so, a large percentage (if not all) of that approximately $60 million non-Trump-campaign political expenditure by the Adelsons was boosting Trump’s Presidential vote.Read More »

U.S. racism and imperialism fuel turbulence in Haiti

Haitians are protesting government corruption. Billions of dollars worth of oil came from Venezuela but the money was expropriated by corrupt Haitian officials. Beginning on February 7, Haitians have been in the streets protesting against corruption, high prices, shortages, inflation, and power outages. Demonstrators are demanding that President Jovenel Moïse, in power since January 2017, resign. Moïse blames the disturbances on “armed groups and drug traffickers” and is calling for negotiation.

Facing police brutality, masses of Haitians have blocked roads, stoned officials, burned vehicles, and ransacked stores; nine are dead and over 100 wounded. Food and drinkable water are scarce.  The United States withdrew non-emergency diplomatic representatives and issued travel warnings. The Trump administration indicated humanitarian aid may be on the way.

WASHINGTON – Pouring into the streets of 234 cities nationwide to protest what one D.C. speaker termed a “Trumped-up – pun intended” crisis, tens of thousands of people demanded Congress end GOP President Donald Trump’s “national emergency,” which Trump declared so he could grab $6 billion to build his racist wall at the U.S.-Mexican border.

Speakers at the rallies alternated between denouncing Trump, opposing the wall, and demanding Congress invoke a never-used portion of the National Emergencies Act to overturn the president’s edict. “#FakeEmergency #FakePresident” one big handmade sign in Lafayette Square said.

Militarization and interference in affairs of others impedes Green New Deal

The military and the weapons industry is the biggest user of fossil fuels that generate waste and cause damage to the environment. Common Dreams

Fighting for a Green New Deal in the United States will require uniting all popular forces against the main barriers to social and ecological progress.

The Sunrise Movement, which has brought the Green New Deal to the forefront of conversations about the environment, has identified fossil fuel interests as a main barrier to a green economy. Leaders like Aru Shiney-Ajay have rightly noted that solving climate issues will require “transforming our agriculture, transport, and energy systems,” and “massively investing in communities hit first and worst.”
