CHINA.—A high-level delegation headed by Cuban Minister of Public Health Dr. Roberto Morales Ojeda, is participating in the 9th Global Conference on Health Promotion, running through November 24 in Shanghai.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Morales shared Cuba’s experiences in health promotion, highlighting achievements as indisputable results of the Revolution. The political will, together with intersectoral efforts and community participation, have allowed the island to reach health indicators that are an international reference.
The Cuban minister also referred to the importance of health promotion at the local level, referring to the Cienfuegos Global Project, which made Cuba a pioneer of the Healthy Cities Movement in 1989. Once again Cuba ratified that only when public health is a state priority and core cross-cutting issue, can the Sustainable Development Goals be fulfilled.
The 9th Global Conference on Health Promotion, with the motto “Health for all, and all for health,” was inaugurated by Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and WHO Director-General Margaret Chan, with the participation of delegations from more than 130 countries.
